Comprative Analysis Of The Financial Performance Of Islamic Commercial Banks After And Before The Merger Of BSI Bank
"Purpose : This research is motivated by large – scale meger of three
state – owned Islamic bank – Bank Mandiri Syariah, BNI
Syariah and BRI Syariah – into Bank Syariah Indonesia
(BSI) in 2021. This merger has created various dynamics
within the Islamic banking industry, include concern over
market concentrarion and its impact on the financial
performance of non-state-owned islmaic banks. Therefor,
this study aims to determaine wheter there are significanr
differences in the financial performance of non-stateowned islamci commercial bank before and after BSI
merger.
Methods : The metodhology used in this study is quantitave approach
with a comparative method. Data were obtained from the
annual financial reports of four non-state-owned Islamic
banks – Bank muamalat, Bank Mega Syariah, BTPN
Syariah and Bank Panin Dubai Syariah- for the periode
2018 – 2023. The analysis was conducted using the paired
sample t-test on six financial ratios: ROA, ROE, CAR.
BOPO, NPF and FDR based on camels approach as
stipulated by Bank Indonedia
Results/findings : Result show that there are significant differences in
several financial indicators, particulary in efficiency and
profitability, before and after the BSI merger. These
findings indicate that the BSI merger has effected the
performance of competing banks, bith directly and
indirectly, and highlight the importance of adaptive
strategis for non-state-owned Islamic banks responding to
changes in industry structure."
