This study aimed to identify the effect of macroeconomic shocks on Islamic and conventional banking in Indonesia. This study also wants to see the durability of the two types of banks. This research used data of Islamic and conventional banks in Indonesia, January 2004 to December 2011 period. Method that used in this study is Vector Error Correction Model (VECM).
The results showed that the growth model of Islamic bank deposits greatly influenced by macroeconomic shocks than conventional banks. Even so, Islamic banks tend to be even so much faster stable. Financing growth model less affected by macroeconomic shocks, this is better than credit model of conventional bank. While the assets growth of conventional banks are more stable and have better endurance than the growth of Islamic banking assets. Even so, the worse exchange rate shocks affect the assets of conventional banks than Islamic bank assets. A model of Islamic bank ROA have better endurance and more stable than conventional banks ROA.
